Description
The elegance and precision of a great Pomerol red wine
The estate
Created in 1920 by a passionate couple, Château Le Bon Pasteur was taken over in 1978 by the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland and his brother, who thus succeeded their father at the helm of this grand cru from Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The estate's 6.6 hectares of vines, located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, are spread over 23 plots of terroir typical of the region and produce wines of great quality. The vineyard, with an average age of 40 years, is managed using sustainable agriculture, earning the estate the High Environmental Value certification.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage will be remembered as a historically early year. Following a rainy autumn, winter brought a change with its mild and dry climate. This mildness also characterized the spring, which was, however, wetter. This provided the vines with an excellent water reserve. These conditions led to an early flowering. Summer was very sunny and dry, giving the grapes a distinctive character. The 2020 climate required the estate’s teams to carry out meticulous, tailored vineyard work. This legendary vintage has produced elegant, powerful wines with beautiful aromatic freshness.
Vinification and aging
After manual harvesting, which took place from September 11 to 29, the grapes were brought to the cellar to begin the vinification process. Double sorting before and after destemming was carried out, along with intra-plot selection. The grapes underwent cold maceration for 5 to 7 days before fermenting in new French oak barrels. Finally, the wine was aged for 15 to 18 months in these same barrels.
Blend
Merlot (80%), cabernet franc (20%)
